There are approximately 70 kilometres of marked hiking trails on Grand Manan, an island in the bay of Fundy, in the province of New Brunswick, Canada. This includes the Red Trail that follows the coast of the island from Southwest Head to Swallowtail.
The trails have much to offer, from a two-day hike of the Red Trail to numerous day hikes.
Hikers are strongly encouraged to purchase the trail guide, Heritage Trails and Footpaths on Grand Manan. The 11th edition is available year-round from the Grand Isle Drug Store in North Head as well as from many seasonal locations on the island, including the Grand Manan Museum. You can also purchase this new edition online. Online maps can be downloaded here for use on your smartphone. Also, maps of some of the trails can also be found at Hiking NB.
The 11th edition includes all-new maps. Georeferenced pdfs of the maps can be downloaded here for use on your smartphone.
Each summer we meet at 9:00 AM Mondays , weather cooperating, at a designated spot to be posted by the preceding weekend. Hikes are around two hours in duration. Everyone welcome, including dogs under control. Notice of the next hike will be posted to the news feed above. You can also join this Facebook group to be informed about each hike and see photos and accounts of past hikes.
Volunteer trail adopters look after specific trails, monitoring work needed and carrying out light maintenance. Heavier work is done every year in the spring by a dedicated crew, and involves clearing fallen trees, repairing and rerouting sections of the trail. We publish the trail guide, Heritage Trails and Footpaths on Grand Manan (11th edition), currently available in English, with the French edition due later this year.
